Line breaks in showFieldMsg()?

Hello,
Does anyone know of a way to insert line breaks in a field message within the showFieldMsg() method?
Tongue Twister not intended.

What version are you on, I'm trying <br /> but it doesn't work. <br \> is incorrect HTML

Neither \n or <br> will work in a showFieldMsg. Why do people post this stuff without trying it themselves?
