Managing attachments to Knowledge Articles

Users of  a Knowledge Base specific to a group of people, need for some of their Knowledge Articles, to be linked to large reference documents (matrices, approval grids, etc). It may be that an attachment is linked to from many KAs.

Where can the Attachments be managed?

I only want the attachment attached once (linked many time), how to do manage the attached document without having to go into a KA that it's been attached to (that's if I can even remember which one it was attached to in the first place)? Does anyone else manage content/documents in ServiceNow, or link out to another doc mngt product?
