Manual Approval Reassignment Utility for ServiceNow

I tried to submit this an article but I coudn't find any place in the community that gives me the ability to do, that's why I'm posting this here.

 

Out-of-the-box, ServiceNow does not provide a simple way to manually reassign approval records once they’ve been generated.

This utility introduces a lightweight, non-intrusive enhancement that adds a Reassign Approval button to the approval form.

 

With this feature, the admin can:

  • Select a new approver from a reference field directly on the form.

  • Instantly create new approval record for the new approver.

  • Maintain a clean audit trail using standard fields.

Also same functionality can be enabled for end users as well in the ESC portal.

  • Saves time — no need to cancel and regenerate approvals.

  • User-friendly — reassign with a single click.

  • OOB-friendly — no code, uses native ServiceNow APIs.

  • Compatible — tested on Yokohama release (should work on older releases).

 

 

Installation & Usage:

  1. Import the provided update set.

  2. Navigate to the sys_approval_approver form.

  3. Use the new Reassign Approval button to pick a different approver.

  4. Save and watch the approval update in real time.
