Mapping Service Catalog Categories to Taxonomy Topics

I was wondering what the community has done for this, and if there are any best practices.  Is there any documentation from SN that lays out what approach should be taken when doing this?

We have switched from Service Portal to Employee Center, and did an initial mapping of categories to topics.  We currently do not have a 1:1 ratio of categories to topics so they are not in sync.

The main issue we are facing is our 'SN Flow Creators' cannot push assigned topics via update set.  Our Flow creators create Catalog Items and Flows in Dev, capture them in an update set, then promote those update sets to Production.

Since these changes aren't captured, we are looking for a solution to resolve this road block.  Some ideas we have are clearing out the current mapping and setting up a 1:1 ratio of categories to topics so they are in sync.  That way we can have a business rule to create the category to topic relationship when a category is chosen.  The category is captured, so this will accomplish our needs.

Another option is just having a list field pointing to the available topics.  This field would be on a the catalog item record similar to the category field.  This will get captured, and when this field is populated, another business rule could just make the m2m connected content record of a catalog item to X topic(s).

I wanted to cover the issue, what our requirements are, who is making the changes, and some solutions we have proposed.  Can the community let me know if any of these ideas are how we should proceed OR is there something different we could do instead.

Thanks!

Hi Marcus,

We have the same issue about the inconsistency between:

- Catalog Category

- KB Category

against the: Taxonomy Topic

Right now, we are still lost.

Because some pages in ESC is only having category (e.g. The Browser Knowledge).

However the ESC search is not displaying category as filter at all, but instead only use topic.

Anything new you have found?
