Outage table

Do you need to have a fully built out CMDB to make this work?

Can this be used with and without the Service portal widget?

Are there pro's/con's to using the outage table?

Thank you for any information you could provide.

Hey Clara, we use the outage table without a complete CMDB. You will need to have your services built out. but our Service Desk manually creates an outage record from an incident. We use to track outage minutes by service.

built a UI action to create planned outage records from Change.

Thank you so much Louie!   Do you know if there would be any con's to using the outage table verses something else.

Have a great night!

I can't think of any Cons to using the outage table.

the benefit is that there is already built in Ui actions and portal widgets that you can utilize that already reference the outage table.

Hi,

You don't need a fully built out CMDB to use the outage table.  I have seen outages recorded at a business service level with no affected CI's - this was for a simple reporting of up-time at a high level.  It does not need to be displayed on your service portal - will depend on what your communication strategy is for outages...it can be useful to display banners on the portal where there is an unplanned outage or to provide a status page for all your business services.
