Hi ServiceNow Community,
I am trying to replicate the existing “New Project from Template” functionality available in Project Workspace within Strategic Planning Workspace, specifically for the Projects related list under a Program.
Existing behavior in Project Workspace
In Project Workspace, the New Project from Template button is available in the Projects list view, and the button is visible and working as expected.
The functionality is configured using:
Declarative Actions → List Action
The existing action is new_from_template. When the action is selected, users can choose an existing project template, and the project is created with the associated project tasks and other applicable template-related information.
I reviewed this existing configuration to understand how the functionality is being triggered.
The Action Assignment has a related list called UX Add-on Event Mappings, where the existing new from template event mapping contains values such as:
- Source Element ID: record_list_header_1
- Source Declarative Action: new_from_template
- Parent Macroponent: Project Tabs
- Target Event: New from template
Requirement in Strategic Planning Workspace
My requirement is to provide the same functionality in Strategic Planning Workspace, but the location of the action is different.
The required flow is:
Strategic Planning Workspace → Program → Projects related list → New Project from Template
Since the button needs to be available on the Projects related list of the Program, I am configuring it using:
Declarative Actions → Related List Action
The button itself can be made visible on the Projects related list. However, the current challenge is configuring the button to trigger the existing New Project from Template functionality.
Issue with UX Add-on Event Mapping
Based on the existing Project Workspace implementation, I understand that the declarative action is connected to the workspace functionality through the UX Add-on Event Mappings related list available on the Action Assignment.
I am therefore trying to create the equivalent event mapping for the Related List Action in Strategic Planning Workspace.
However, I am unable to identify the correct values for the following fields:
- Source Element ID
- Parent Macroponent
- Target Event
For reference, the existing Project Workspace mapping uses:
- Source Element ID = record_list_header_1
- Parent Macroponent = Project Tabs
- Target Event = New from template
These values appear to be specific to the Project Workspace Projects list view, whereas my action is being added to the Projects related list of a Program in Strategic Planning Workspace.
I have checked the UI Builder page/component hierarchy and also inspected the page using browser DevTools, but I have not been able to determine the corresponding Parent Macroponent, Source Element ID, or Target Event for the Projects related list.
Questions
How can I identify the correct Parent Macroponent for the Projects related list under a Program in Strategic Planning Workspace?
How can I identify the correct Source Element ID/component ID for a Declarative Actions → Related List Action?
How can I determine the correct Target Event that should be used in the UX Add-on Event Mapping?
- Since the existing functionality uses a List Action in Project Workspace but my requirement uses a Related List Action in Strategic Planning Workspace, is a different UX Add-on Event Mapping required?
The Related List Action button is already visible in Strategic Planning Workspace. The main issue is identifying the correct UX Add-on Event Mapping configuration, particularly the Source Element ID, Parent Macroponent, and Target Event, so that the button can trigger the existing project-from-template functionality.
Any guidance on identifying these values for the Projects related list in Strategic Planning Workspace would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
