I am going to start Archiving on my instance and the biggest question i am facing is what are the options for reporting on archived data as users will want to see their data.

So i just what to know what others have done and what are the best ways i can choose from.

The achieved records are stored into another table, thus only admins had access to them. While users say they needed access, rarely did anyone query back farther than 2 yrs. We archived records if closed 2 yrs ago or greater. We also archived our Metric's table as that was huge and reporting was rather slow.

Thanks for your reply Michael.

If i understand correctly then no one reports on the archived data in your instance.

In my case we are thinking about archiving 12 months old data as the ticket volume is extremely huge and hence we do need to allow users to report.

No one except admins and the requests were rare. The oob archive form contains all fields, so plan on customizing the form to meet your requirements. There is an Restore UI action (I think it's Restore) that you can restore 1 record at a time. I didn't find a way to restore multiple records at a time, but it's been a while. Once restored, I believe you'll have to manual archive again.

Thats correct, i have made a utility to bulk restore also. Just want to explore options for reporting.

I am thinking about creating report on ACL on archived table and provide reporting rights to some role, say ITIL
