Service Catalog - Issue with Variables

I'm struggling with the configuration of a Catalog Item. When I select a Parent Contract in the first field, I expect List Collector only to show the Contracts the have the Contract in the first selection as Parent Contract.

Everything works fine, until I put a value in the Look Up Value field. In the non-working situation, the List Collector always shows the same three contracts, no matter what the selected Contract in the first field is.

What am I missing?

A simplified mockup is working for me in my PDI - check Include none on the parent so that there is no default value, and make sure you have the attribute on the child.
