Your question is very wide. It depend, are you referring from dev side / end-user / business user.

For anyone, the basic is know the ServiceNow and the process ( business process / IT processes) flow.

- Basic understanding of navigation.

-SOW is not same as portal, so from dev, the backend structure must be known, mainly UI builder.

First things first. I suggest to start with Foundations course, It's free and can teach you the basics of ServiceNow. The second thing to do is the system administration course.
