What do Green Field names with a [ ] after it represent in the Available slushbucket on a Personalizing Incident form?

I have several Green Field names with a [+] after it in the Available slushbucket on a Personalizing Incident form. Some of the same values appear in the Selected slushbucket but are black and have no [+] after them. I also have a dark red or brown value in the Selected slushbucket and 40 in the Available bucket. Is there an advantage for using one of the color coded names vs. not color coded? If you can provide a link and/or an answer, it would be most appreciated!

They are reference fields that you can dot-walk to fields on their tables.

So, you can, on a request item form, put request.state or request.opened_by or what have you.
