From the July release, there is a new browser extension for Employee center. Let's try and hook this up to my PDI.

These seem to be the basic steps I'll need to go through to make this setup happen.

First step, the plugin was available in the plugins list for the PDI. Installation was quick, maybe 1 minute tops.

Checking around at some of what was installed, we got a portal record which should be used by the popout when it's rendered. There were page routes installed as well behind the scenes.

Next there were a group of tables to add website content for Apps and Quick Links, which I did to complete step 2.

Now, this is where it gets dicey. In the documentation for the release, it provides info to build out and incorporate a JSON file with settings into Chrome or Edge. In the release note, its listed as "To enable access, enterprise administrators must configure browser policies based on the supported browser." That's not something I can do to update Chrome on my work laptop (easily).

At this point, I may be stuck with this PDI experiment. There may be a way to deploy this locally on my own laptop if the correct admin setup is done at Google to grant me admin access to my Chrome policy. If I can get any of that to work, I'll post to show the process.
