Is there a way to match the breadcrumbs navigation to the taxonomy topics

I've got a custom portal that includes Taxonomy Topics in the mega menu. When I say "custom portal," I mean that we use our own Portal records, but we're using the out-of-the-box Catalog Home Page (esc_sc_cat_item) and Knowledge Home Page (esc_knowledge_home) pages.
Each Topic contains Catalog Items or Knowledge Articles as connected content. However, when users navigate to a Catalog Item or Knowledge Article, the breadcrumbs display the Category hierarchy rather than the Taxonomy Topic hierarchy.
Is there a way to have the breadcrumbs resolve against the Taxonomy Topics instead of the Categories?
For example, if a Catalog Item or Knowledge Article is connected to the Topic "Computers", the breadcrumb should display something like: Home > Computers > [Catalog Item / Knowledge Article] instead of showing the Category path.
I've attached a screenshot showing the expected breadcrumb structure. Has anyone implemented this or knows whether it's supported out of the box?
