Background:
We launched the employee center in prod 6 months ago with an implementation partner. We have the following taxonomy topics configured in our production instance.
In Prod, the menu does not display the three topics suffixed in “MTM Page”. This is desired behavior. These 3 pages are links within content widget on the home page; we do not want them to appear in the main mega menu.
Problem:
We are adding a taxonomy topic for the first time – a subtopic under Career. I was mocking up in DEV. I have added the subtopic and associated content to the page, but the topic did not appear in the menu. I went to the Advanced Portal Navigation and used “Sync Hierarchy” button. Note: the sync status stated, “Never Synced”. After syncing, the new subtopic does appear under the Carrer topic, but now the 3 MTM Pages are showing in the menu on the home page, which is NOT desired.
Questions for discussion:
- Is it correct that we are planning to build this page/content directly in Prod instead of moving through the environments? At implementation, we had a lot of trouble getting all the content to display correctly when topic pages were moved through update sets. We were told that future updates to content/topic pages should be managed and maintained in the Prod content library, then cloned down.
- Is there a way to designate topics/pages should NOT appear in the main menu, but still be categorized within the same taxonomy?
- How were these 3 pages NOT displaying before? I cannot find any configuration or settings that are hiding them from the main menu. Is it just that other pages were built first and the hierarchy was never synced?
- Could I move these 3 pages to a MTM taxonomy to remove them from the menu, or are there other considerations to keeping them in the same Employee taxonomy?
