Hello @nrmane2 ,
Welcome to the ServiceNow world! 🙌 Coming from a .NET support background, you're already bringing a strong technical foundation with you — which will definitely help as you start exploring the platform.
Since you're looking for career guidance and want to understand the basics, here’s what I’d suggest from my own journey:
🔹 Start with the fundamentals — the ServiceNow System Administrator course on Now Learning is a great entry point. It’ll give you a structured overview of the platform.
🔹 Set up your free Personal Developer Instance (PDI) from the ServiceNow Developer Site. Practice is key. Even simple things like building a catalog item or writing a basic client script will teach you a lot.
🔹 Focus first on core concepts like:
-
UI Policies
-
Client Scripts
-
Business Rules
-
Script Includes
-
Flow Designer
-
Catalog Items & Record Producers
-
GlideRecord and Scheduled Jobs
🔹 From a module perspective, start with ITSM (Incident, Problem, Change). These are widely used in almost every implementation.
Also — since you’ve worked with .NET, scripting won’t feel too alien to you. ServiceNow uses JavaScript, so brushing up your JS basics (especially Glide APIs) will give you an edge.
A few more personal tips:
-
Watch topic-wise YouTube videos — they help a lot, especially when you want to learn at your own pace.
-
Use the ServiceNow Docs — it’s your best friend as you go deeper.
-
Install the SN Utils browser extension — it makes life much easier when working inside the platform.
Lastly — don’t rush. Take one topic at a time, try it hands-on, and slowly connect the dots. It takes time, but once it clicks, you'll really start enjoying the platform.
Feel free to reach out if you need help — happy to share what helped me when I started. All the best for your ServiceNow journey! 👍
🔹 Please mark ✅ Correct if this solves your query, and 👍 Helpful if you found the response valuable.
Best regards,
Aniket Chavan

Just wanted to check in to see if my earlier response helped you out or if you're still facing any issues. If your query is resolved, it would be great if you could mark my reply as helpful and accept it as the solution — that way it can also benefit others who come across the thread later.😊
Also, if you found any other responses helpful, feel free to mark those as helpful too. You can even accept multiple solutions if they contributed to resolving your issue.
Let me know if you need anything else!
Best regards,
Aniket Chavan
