ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management on the Now Platform Washington D.C. release

ServiceNow® Hardware Asset Management proves invaluable in minimizing stockroom inventories and resource wastage at the outset of the lifecycle. Value is also provided at the end of the lifecycle – asset managers harness valuable insights from end-of-life (EOL) and end-of-service (EOS) data to aid hardware refresh planning. This approach mitigates risks associated with aging assets while optimizing costs through systematic purchasing methods. It helps meet compliance with security protocols for lost or stolen devices, regulatory requisites, and environmental disposal standards.

Hardware Asset Management streamlines the technology lifecycle with pre-set workflows aligned with industry best practices. These workflows reduce manual processes, enhance efficiency, and provide improved experiences for employees and customers, without relying on many tools.

In the Now Platform® Washington D.C. release, there are four core capabilities for ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management:

  1. Asset total cost of ownership
  2. Asset warranty integration with Lenovo
  3. Hardware Asset Management maturity
  4. Indoor mapping

Asset total cost of ownership

Asset managers often struggle to calculate and understand the total cost of an asset throughout its lifetime due to its complex nature and the need to use data in multiple different systems. This makes it difficult for businesses to make fully informed decisions regarding replacing, repairing, repurchasing an asset. Asset total cost of ownership (TCO) calculates the total cost of a hardware asset throughout its lifecycle, including the initial capital cost and the operation cost.

Asset warranty integration with Lenovo

The manual effort to find asset warranty can be frustrating and lead to inaccuracies. This solution enables users to manage hardware assets based on the warranty information received from Lenovo. This integration displays details of the warranties associated with a hardware asset directly on the asset form. Users can also view all the warranties from a central location using the ‘asset operations’ view of the Hardware Asset Workspace. With these displays, customers can track the hardware assets that are approaching the warranty expiration date and take necessary action.

Hardware Asset Management maturity

Hardware asset managers need to find ways to increase the value of their investments and maximize benefits within the application. With Hardware Asset Management maturity, these asset managers can measure current maturity and improve the value return of ServiceNow Hardware Asset Management within their organization through the ‘Success portal’ view in hardware asset workspace. Users can visualize, identify, and report the capabilities or features that should be focused on to use Hardware Asset Management efficiently.

Indoor mapping

It can be difficult and time-consuming to locate assets without specific and accurate location data. The business need is to view the location of assets within a building or facility. Indoor mapping offers an interactive indoor map, which allows users to locate and visualize hardware assets mapped to physical spaces. The map displays an overhead view of the building with detailed floor plans and clearly marked rooms and areas. Asset locations are represented as distinct markers, each corresponding to a specific location. Users can filter the map to display specific asset types and search for assets based on specific attributes or categories.

Additional features for this release include:

Feature/Capability

Description

Custom model category licensing

Access Hardware Asset Management features and workflows by associating the custom model category with a parent model category that is linked to a licensable and opted-in Resource Category. The ITAM License Report shows all custom model categories associated with licensable and opted-in Resource categories.

TRM lifecycle phase visibility

Customers can manage hardware products within the organization efficiently by using the TRM lifecycle phase details. These details highlight if any hardware product used in the organization isn’t part of TRM or if it isn't approved to use.
