Assigned Date and Installed Date fields

In the Hardware Asset Management application, out of the box, do the 'Assigned' and 'Installed' date fields on the asset form auto-populate when you change the state from In Stock to In Use?

I just tried it on my own instance, and it does not appear to populate either of those fields. It does look like there are some business rules on the Asset [alm_asset] table to clear the Assignee, however.
