Duplicate Dell Model Numbers

Dell has a practice of reusing the same model number (i.e. 210_BGNT) for different configurations. They use the same model number based on a chassis and not the customized configuration. We maintain three configurations of the same chassis (64GB/1TB, 64GB/2TB & 128GB/2TB). The ASN file imports only the Dell model number, PO, Asset Tag, Serial#, etc.

Is SNow able to distinguish between the three configurations? If so, how should the Hardware Model table be configured to support it?

OR

Will SNow simply assign the asset to the first matching model number in the table?

ServiceNow ASN only considers the model number and pulls the first match. This is one of many issues with ASN. In the same fashion, if you have a PO with multiple POL for the same model then ASN will only associate the assets to the first discovered POL for particular model regardless if it has already pre-created all the assets in relation to POL order quantity. There are a ton of other serious flaws with the ASN that I typically advise against utilizing the OOB ASN. If ASN is necessary, then you will want to customize the transform map logic.

Thanks, Oscar. The platform team has decided we will drop the ASN, altogether and move to the API.
