ServiceNow: Significance of Model Number field in ServiceNow CMDB Hardware CIs.

Hello community, 

I have been working on ServiceNow integration/discovery mainly around populating the CMDB for a while. We have been populating fields such as Manufacturer, Model_ID, but never looked at the field Model Number. Is there any significance or dependencies on this field? Does it have any impact/relationships with Asset Management? Please let me know.

If you only use the CMDB for basic operational tracking (Incidents/Changes), you can get by with leaving it blank.

However, if your organization plans to mature into Asset Management, Procurement, or HAM Normalization, you should start mapping the raw manufacturer SKU/part number into the model_number field during your integration transformations.
