when Retire option is selected on new or revised knowledge article in a Published state

User is prompted to enter a mandatory 'Retirement reason' that gets saved and appended into the Description field with a prefix of "Retirement Reason: " followed by text provided by user

From where are you doing this? Knowledge portal, backend, workspace, etc?

But I would reconsider the requirement, or challenge it. I would make a separate field for it, so you can also report on it. That would be very hard when it's in the body of the article. Next to that: if, at any time, someone republishes (or copy/pastes the text) to create a new article, you run the risk of embedding the 'retirement info' into the new article (but that's just experience talking).

 Actually i am doing this in backend 

when I click on retire button in Knowledge article I want to show one dialog box in that dialog  box I want that retirement reason when I put any retirement reason and clicked on "OK" button on that dialog box I want that sentence append in description filed with past description sentence
