I need to create a widget that fetches the related article of an item and displays it on the hub.

Not sure what the hub is. But you can use the OOTB widgets to show related articles and related catalog items.

Related Catalog Item - uses entries on the sc_2_kb table

Knowledge Related Articles - uses entries on the kb_2_kb table
