Configure Function Field - how to extract the text before a hyphen / comma of an incident title

We are trying to use the Configure Function Field in reporting to extract the text from an incidents title or short description.
For example ticket titles could be
Avaya - caller ID not visible
Microsoft Teams - slowness on new chats
We want to extract just the application names in a new column, Avaya and Microsoft Teams
We are using Configure Function field but we must be using the wrong formula
It is not bringing back any results using the above.
Any ideas?

Never been a fan of the Function field.
I'd use a before update business rule
