Hi Donna,

Below post may be helpful to you.

How are you handling "Appliances" in your CMDB?

Regards,

Sachin

Where I work, we usually say managed Windows or Linux boxes/VMs that we install applications on ourselves are servers.   Anything that comes embedded, or already pre-configured with the application from the vendor is an applicance, whether it runs Windows or Linux and even if we are given an OS login.   Appliances are usually patched/updated through the vendor, OS or application.   Also for us, we typically do not domain join appliances, but the application may be able to utilize LDAP for administration.

Thank you Andrew this clears it for me.
