Add audit on em_alert table?

We've been getting questions from Application Owners regarding who or what have been changing values on an Alert record. The history of a record is very limited and since I can't see that from the Record History (also called Audit History), I'm wondering if there's a reason for that (and also how to solve it).

Work notes data is also not displaying this information.

Question:

Is it because there might be so much data on the em_alert table that it's not recommended to have that?

If so, how/where can I see what/why or by who an alert has been marked/unmarked as acknowledged or set to maintenance?

Is it OK to add audit to these fields?

Ok.. Seems to be a KB-article for this:
KB0812556: Audit of "Alert [em_alert]" is not capturing all field data updates.

However, I would still like to know what/why sets an Alert to Acknowledged, because I assume there is something happening in the background, in some cases.

Please post findings here.

Yes, I've added  acknowledged and maintenance to the list. So maybe I will see something there. But I added audit to the fields first.
