Agent based Discovery with ServiceNow?

Hi Community,

 

today I was asked by customer if agent based discovery possible with ServiceNow. I can remember that it was mentioned at Knowledge 18. Someone said that there will be a support of this approach in future releases (can’t remember if this person talked about London or Madrid). Do anyone know if there's anything on the roadmap?

Hi Daniel, would you mind marking one of the responses as correct? Unfortunately as of now it's not on the roadmap. ServiceNow architecture will continue to rely in MID Server and can still integrate with other third party agent based solutions like BigFix.

I am not sure about roadmap for agent based disco but agent/agentless has its own merits. If deep-dive discovery is required,collection of performance metrics, any update on the system agent may perform better. It should be customer choice to decide what they really want agent/agentless.

Also, Servicenow may increase their scope and enter into enterprise monitoring (as already they have Event management) who knows so everything can be covered under 1 ecosystem.

There is no agent-based Discovery right now, nor that I heard about that it would be there in future. The only 'agent-based' what is belonging to ITOM and Discovery is the Advanced Application Dependency Mapping (ADM) feature where scripts are getting installed on host machines to determine/explore the application flow:

Thanks to all of you. In my opinion it would be a nice capability if you can choose between agentless and agentbased. Mostly there are security restrictions in some network segments which makes agentless discovery impossible. I think agentbased could be helpful in such cases.

 

Hi Daniel, 

You could do agent based discovery by using other systems (like BigFix) and then through an integration populate the ServiceNow CMDB.
