Hello Experts,
For ServiceNow Discovery, If there is discovery of devices is performed on the on-premises devices and then it migrates to Cloud Environment, will the discovery be able to scan the devices automatically?
(i) Will it require additional effort to scan and get the migrated devices into CMDB?
(ii) Will there be a name change of the devices if yes, what care should be taken for clean up?
(iii) If I integrate NOW with Azure (Console), will it be able to discover all cloud resources on its own?

It depends up how you are migrating. In our case it worked fine after migration. All we did is discovering few of the devices and confirming the mid server service is working or not. On other hand they requested for new devices to deployed on the cloud for that the efforts was 50% of DC. As the mid server was already present and working.

Cloud Discovery needs to be run separately to discover the devices once migrated. setup schedules for this accordingly. yes there will be name changes, and ip changes. you would want to ensure that applications/other servers interfacing with these will be adjusted to use the new co-ordinates (url's, hostname, etc).

Here is my 2 cent reply
(i) Will it require additional effort to scan and get the migrated devices into CMDB?--> Yes Both Cloud Resources and Horizontally Scanned devices which was done in OnPrem Discovery
(ii) Will there be a name change of the devices if yes, what care should be taken for clean up?--> Generally during Application migration from dc2dc or DC 2Cloud HostName should be kept intact name at-least . Changing host name and IP Both has very larger impact from Big Picture perspective as there are lot of app configurations and inerfaces using Name and IP.
(iii) If I integrate NOW with Azure (Console), will it be able to discover all cloud resources on its own?- Still u need to do configuration
Regards

Recently we did this. Moved the on premise to AWS and OCI. It was lift and shift. we could able to discover the devices. (The migration team confirmed no down time)
We moved the mid server to correct cloud to make sure the connectivity work.

Hello Pratiksha,
The question is whether we should account for same amount of effort that we put for Physical discovery for cloud discovery as well? Or there might be a 30/40 or 50% additional effort to re-configure discovery to now gather the assets that have migrated from DC to Cloud.
