Discovery Schedule - SNMP Version field

When setting up a Discovery Schedule, is there any reason not to choose 'ALL' for 'Use SNMP version', so that you don't limit what you are discovering ?      Thanks !

Hi @Lisa O_Brien  : When you choose All , it means it will ,check all type of snmp credentials ( means snmp v1/v2 and snmp v3 ) .

If you don't select all and select v1/v2 then your schedule will only connect with snmp v1 and v2 credentials type of device and snmpv3 credentials type of device will fail to connect.

Hope it will help you.

Thanks,

Harsh

Thanks - I do understand that.    However my question was why not just set it to ALL ?   Are there any downsides to setting it to ALL ?

Hi @Lisa O_Brien  No, Most of the new snmp device are following snmp v3 type of credentials, but some of legacy snmp device still use v1v2 type credentials , when we define ranges on schedule it is hard to know which network ip following snmpv1/v2 or snmpv3 , so instead we set all on Use SNMP version field.

Selecting All will increase the discovery time for First Run. First time Credentials are tried on basis of opened port and it will try all SMNP on a given device until it matches.

Second run will use IP Affinity  for faster processing.

So selecting ALL is safe as you may not know which device is using V1,V2 or Ve3.
