Hi, Does discovery service account require full control (Read, write, edit etc) admin access to discover windows servers and mssql instance running on them. or is it read only access.
Please tell me if it has full control what could go wrong?

You need Admin Access on given Host . WMI 135 and Higher Ports must be opened.
User must have write Access on $ADMIN Share of the Host from Mid Server.
Refer this KB for more details -

Thanks for the response Rahul. Does it create any files on the server if we have write access to admin$ while discovering mssql instance running on the pattern?
