Hello Experts,
Can anyone please explain me the entire process how discovery is populating model id through probes and through Patterns .
I did know there is script include AssetandCI through which discovery is populating model id but everytime we manually need to add the model ids and manufacturer in Product model table or is there any other way through which we are getting this.
I know discovery is searching in Product model table and according to the model category it populates the Model name in Model id field.
But everytime we need to maintain this table or discovery also maintains as when the discovery checks for model id and didn't find any then it inserts the unknown model id in many cases.
Also how can we stop discovery to populate "UNKNOWN" Model IDs in CI's in Patterns also.

Hi,
There can be many reasons to this. Like category mapping for model ids, etc. Read comments in below articles
Check this outs:

Hello Ashutosh,
Thank you for your time.
I have read the articles given by you,but still I don't know why discovery is creating UNKNOWN model id in spite having a model ID.
Just a thought if we manually create Model Ids for those CI's for which discovery is creating wrong model id in the Product model table so will the discovery overwrite it next time the CI will be discovered?
Regards.

Hi,
Yes it will until you dont have reconciliation rule in place. So if you want you can create a rule on this field to avoid discovery to update this field.
Thanks,

Hello Ashutosh,
For computers and Servers we can create the Reconciliation rulesif we want to stop discovery from updating the Model id but since in many cases it is updating right only in few cases it is updating the UNKNOWN instead of wrong ones,so how can we solve this?
And also in one of the Article i have read that in case of Printers ,Switched it refers to SNMP OID Classifications so in that case do we need to manually update that table after creating the classifier.
I have read the below article:

Hello Ashutosh,
I have tried to manually add the Model ID for the Network Devices in SNMP OID table as mentioned in the Payload, and when i discover this again ,now the discovery is populating the Model Id and Manufacture for the network devices for those which were UNKNOWN previously.
So my Question is for all the network devices we need to manually add the Model ID as per the Payload in The SNMP OID table or is there any other way to do this.
And also what about the computers, servers there Model ID is Still showing Unknown?
Need to fix this.
Please help me in this.
Thank you for always helping and guiding.
Regards,
Riya
