Mid Server Planning - How many mid server required for discovery, service mapping, event management and other process.

Hi Experts,

I have to estimate the number of mid servers required for my client. We will be implementing bellow modules and will integrate with others tools suing mid servers.

  • LDAP
  • Discovery(10K devices including computers, network devices, VMs, Storage etc. )
  • Service Mapping(Critical Business Service Mapping)
  • Orchestrations(4-5 identified use cases for repetitive/ common tickets such as High CPU usage, disk utilization, RAM utilization, etc)
  • Event Management(Integration with VR OPS, SPLUNK, SolarWinds, E-sight from Huawei, SCCM , Flexera)

Please let me know how can I estimate the number of mid servers required for the above process. Also I need the hardware requirement for the estimated mid servers.

And what factors should I consider for the estimation?

Best Regards,

Sagar

Sagar,

You are going to need to do some reading of the doc site to figure a lot of this out. Either way I would make sure you follow Doug's sizing guide (I've attached it here) for discovery. Service Mapping can be run along side the discovery operations but you may want to have 1-2 mid servers specifically for it (although if you have different security zones this will be tough thus why you may need to share with discovery). I'm not an orchestration and ldap expert but I would assume you should have a mid server for each of those. Lastly for event management I would have 1-2 mid servers just for it (so you have a backup in case one goes down) so you know you always have SNMP trap listeners running. Hope this helps.

And the docs have new Minimum requirements to be a guide as well.. remember minimum...
