Nagios Solarwinds integration with ServiceNow

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to understand methods for integration for event management for Nagios and Solarwinds with ServiceNow.

Documents are scattered and not at single place.

Can anyone provide all the pointers that are required for this integration: below are few I know.

  • Configure connector
  • Create Event management rule
  • Create alert management rule

is there any proper documentation available for this and are there any standard rules available which we can use/modify based on our requirements.

Regards,

HM

Hi Hanumant,

For Solarwinds and Nagios, the Connector definitions are already available OOTB in ServiceNow, Use it and follow the below steps.

1. Configure the connector instance with the host IP and the credentials (Monitoring team will provide this)

2. Test the connector using 'Test Connection' button

3. You will be having events in ServiceNow

4. Create an event rule. Better to create it directly from the events that has been test loaded

5. Create a flow to create Incidents from the report

6. Create an alert management rule.

7. Add flow diagram in the 'Action' part of alert management rule

8. Configure the event rules according to New or Closure events, So the flow should be according to that. Open and close a case

And if you don't have appropriate licenses for event management and connectors, you can also do it using a Scripted REST API integration.

Hi Vishnu,

Thank you for the detail explanation.

We are preparing for the discussion for this integration and want to be ready with data from monitoring team on what kind of events will be sent to ServiceNow, based on which we can create rules as we need.

Any standard set of questions we should be asking from ServiceNow perspective.

Hi Vishnu,

Once we configure connectors in ServiceNow for both Nagios and Solarwinds, is there any configuration that Nagios and Solarwinds team will need to perform on their side?

Is connector itself responsible to pull events from monitoring system?

What level of credentials should be used for configuring in connector?
