Network Device Discoery updating the IP address of device ?

Hi All,

We have implemented the discovery for Network Devices, and we noticed that for some of the devices, the discovery is updating the IP address as well.

As per my understanding discovery discovers the network devices using IP addresses, then ideally it should insert a record if the IP address is not present in class, but instead it is updating the IP address of existing device. Could someone please explain us, on why does this happen, if you have faced this kind of behavior with discovery.

Thanks & Regards,
Gaurav Kumar

Hi Gaurav,

There is a scenario described   here where IPs of an existing device are being updated

Discover multiple CIs with the same serial number - Part I

Maybe this helps diagnose the issue you are seeing?

Hi Gaurav,

I have encounter with an issue for the CI identifiers, we are running the discovery for the Servers, and for some CI's its name is same and IP address are different. But because of the hardware identifier rule, CI is not created for each device, rather it is updated.

So to resolve this I have created a separate CI identifier on the windows server. But after creating the CI identifier. Discovery is not running successfully.

I have encountered below error.

2018-09-26 19:33:54: Relation and/or reference table discovery_net_arp_table is not a known CI Type. Check the discovery logs for more details.
2018-09-26 07:03:59: Identification Engine: Discovery status is FAILURE, unable to get error message.

Could you please guide me on this.
After creating new CI identifier, discovery is failed.
Am i missing some step here.

Thanks
Sanket
