Hello ITOM Experts,

I am leaning service mapping from now learning and in the section where they teach about creating your own patterns, i am unable to understand any of it. Can anyone tell me what should i learn to understand them. Like the commands shows are in the form of example: $process.commandLine, like what is this programming language, like do i need to learn powershell or what do i need to learn to understand patterns. Please help me.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Deepika,

I faced a similar thing when I started learning patterns. These are the few things that helped me.

1)You need to have a good understanding of the networking devices. (All you need to know is what they do, which protocol they use to authenticate, and the basics)

2) channel follow him and watch his videos. It will give a basic understanding of SNMP devices.

3)Nowlearning course: Discovery Extra's
4)Always see what ServiceNow doing in their patterns. I am able to extend patterns by following OOB patterns only.
5)Start with discovery patterns as Orons said, Service Mapping patterns mostly concentrate on connections.
Best of luck. I hope this helps.
