I’m delighted to announce the latest Now Create Success Pack: Digital Portfolio Management. It contains a range of leading practice guidance to help customers and partners implement this innovative and exciting new capability that arrives with the February Store release of ServiceNow.
This is a solution that’s perfect for service and app owners responsible - and accountable - for the planning, delivery, performance measurement and continuous improvement of apps, services and products deployed to meet business needs. These owners have so many responsibilities from translating business needs into an actionable roadmap, managing operational performance, stakeholder liaison and ultimately proving the value of the solution. This hasn’t always been an easy task-set!
“I don’t have a good way to determine service health. If my phone is not ringing, my email is not burning up and there aren’t many tickets in the queue, I make the assumption, right or wrong, that my customers are happy.” Solution Owner
In Digital Portfolio Management (DPM) we sought to provide customers a single view of the total lifecycle of their services, apps and projects to solve a host of legacy pain points that in the past had been driving all sorts of inefficiencies in most enterprises. These included:
- A fractured view: There wasn’t a single view of apps and services, leading not only to inefficiency but a lack of visibility
- A disparate tool set: Because real-time data was scattered across different tools, or not even available in some cases, measurable and holistic data to support decision making wasn’t available or comparable.
- Siloed work streams: despite the collaboration of different departments on apps and services, there was a lack of visibility into technical, operational and roadmap dependencies.
- A complicated set-up: All of the above meant a time-consuming solution and a lack of guidance.
With DPM all of that is solved in one, elegant and unified workspace that allows owners to holistically view and collectively manage their services, apps and products throughout the lifecycle and beyond. Some of the features it provides include:
- You can view service portfolio taxonomies, measure and monitor performance metrics at each level of the portfolio, and compare service performance
- You can create personal portfolios to collectively manage your services, apps, and/or products
- You can plan within the context of your service, app, or product – manage your roadmap, prioritize the backlog, review and promote new ideas
- You can monitor critical KPIs and operational performance, gauge performance against commitments, and be alerted to current and ongoing impacts
- You can view business application deployments, assess hardware and software models and technology risk, ensure risk compliance, and take action on risk response and remediation tasks
However, as with any solution, deriving the full value of it depends on how well it is deployed and how well you are prepared to integrate it into daily operations. Which is where the Now Create Success Pack comes in! In case you’re not familiar with our Success Pack methodology, you can watch this video here to get across it. In essence, we have collated all of our own expertise with all the most successful implementation learnings from our collective customer base to ensure the most successful outcomes possible. Within the specific Digital Portfolio Management Success Pack customers will find support for process workshops and scoping, starter user stories and the Mastering Digital Portfolio Management white paper which will support teams looking to harness the power of the DPM workspace.
