Can anyone explain Routine vs Normal and Standard change types?

Also can anyone explain change types that are used for change requests in the Service-Now DemoNow site?   When logged into the SN DemoNow site; then
list all change requests records and group by "type",   there are the following types: Standard, Normal, Routine, Comprehensive?   I know what Standard change
type applies for. It is the Normal, Routine and   Comprehensive change types that I am unsure of.     My understanding of Comprehensive is a change request

that requires CAB approval. If I have that right, then I'm thinking a Normal change is a change that does not require CAB approval? If I am correct on these,

that leaves the Routine change type. and I'm not sure what is meant by a Routine change type vs Normal or Standard change types? A Routine change sounds

somewhat redundant with Standard change?   I.e. A Standard change being a "pre-approved standard change request using a approved "standard change
template" by clicking on the Create New change button.   - see screen shots below.

I think the idea is:

Routine changes are low impact, repeatable changes which need to be logged for reporting purposes. i.e switch out tape backups

Standard changes are common changes that you can pre-fill from a template; maybe not as 'routine' as a Routine change, but used more often that a 'Normal'

Normal change could be classified as 'comprehensive'; maybe something that hasn't been done before, thus no template, and too complicated for it to be a routine change.

The nomenclature is a bit confusing for sure. There's a bit of info here:http://wiki.servicenow.com/index.php?title=ITIL_Change_Management#gsc.tab=0

I just want to see if there is any more follow up to this?

It seems that "Standard" applies to pre-approved Changes that a user can select from a drop down box.

A "Routine" change is similar to Standard, except that it requires an approval.

A "Normal" change is a regular change that needs to be approved by the Change Manager, and possibly also the CAB if the scope warrants it.

I'm not sure what "Comprehensive" is.

Am I on the right track?

Thanks

Robert

Routine and Standard change are same, which doesn't need approval. These are pre-approved changes, which when submitted will directly go for implementation. For ex DNS Change, which will have a pre-defined template with steps and procedure.

Normal and Comprehensive change are same. They will go through a Change Manager Review Phase, Technical Approval phase (optional) and a CAB Review phase before moving into implementation phase. These are usually major or minor releases.

Emergency are changes you want to deploy immidiately to fix a High priority incident. This can be submitted and implemented if approved offline as well. ECAB needs to approve such changes.

Please mark this response as correct or helpful if it assisted you with your question.

I guess the question pertains to the original post from wakehl:

It seems that when you create a new Change, there are 3 options: Standard, Normal and Emergency. That makes sense - sounds like ITIL basic types to me.

But then in the other screenshot, it displays two new "types" - Routine and Comprehensive.

So the question is really what determines "Routine" and "Comprehensive", and why are they there if they're the same as Standard and Normal? It seems redundant, that's all.
