Can cloning happen between two different versions?

Hello,

I have couple of questions with regards to Cloning.

1) Can cloning happen between two different versions? For eg: Can I clone an instance which is in Helsinki over an Instance which is in Jakarta?

2) If I use "Preserve Data" for some tables, I know that my data in the target instance will be preserved for those tables but will the data from the Source instance also gets copied to target instance for the tables that I preserved?

--Yes.

-It would exclude those table's data.

If you clone Helsinki over Jakarta, then your target instance will be downgraded to Helsinki.

Preserve data will exclude those tables during clone.

I know you're asking this for a reason, but I'd first upgrade instance to new release and then clone data from instance X to instance Y that both are on the same version.

I also think you should bare in mind what sachin.namjoshi said in his post about what happens if they are not in the same release.
