Creating a purchase order for cables as consumables

Recently started working with procurement in a non-production instance and looking for some guidance.
First group of items for procurement will be consumables.
Using the example of needing an HDMI cable, I've created the consumable model for a cable, with no cost.

Then created the associated hardware catalog item, again with no cost.

For that item, added a variable for cable length and included the available lengths and associated cost for each.

When requesting these from the catalog, the cost is calculated correctly based on the length and quantity chosen.
The challenge is when procurement attempts to create the purchase order for the product. The entry shows up as zero dollars.

I tried creating separate consumable models for each cable length and included the cost of each, but am unable to determine how those would be linked to the single catalog item, with the variable of length. Scouring the community and reviewing numerous items within the ServiceNow docs site, have not provided the information. I've also reviewed a number of videos, blogs and articles on asset management and procurement, with no answer.

Ideally, I would like to have the purchase order vendor drop down only show the cost of the specified length of cable requested.
What am I missing in order to link these together correctly?

Thanks for your assistance.

Ron:  Interesting question...

1)  Do you need to track these hdmi cables by length when they are created as a consumable record after receiving the PO?

*  If yes - then you should create different models for each and the appropriate vendor catalog item/price for each - you will then see the appropriate cost

*  If no - the you can create a single hdmi cable consumable model and multiple vendor catalog items with different cost for the different lengths

I think that will get you where you need to go.  Vendor Catalog Items associated to the Model...

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response Akash.

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

I've actually created the individual prices and models for each length of cable, as that is how we intend to track them.

My question was more around how these get linked back to the catalog item. Since I've only created a single catalog item for HDMI cable and used a length variable to identify which model to request, I'm not able to locate a way to have it link back to the appropriate option for procurement. Am I forced to create a separate catalog item for each cable length?

Cheers,

Ron

Hi rlehmann,

Did you had any solution to this issue?
