I think the answer is "Yes", but I'm just looking for a quick confirmation. When I impersonate a user, I am logging in AS THEM. So, any changes I make (e.g. starring an item, adjusting visible columns) would show up after they log in, right? I was hoping that impersonate just makes like a shadow copy of their account with the same privileges/permissions, but doesn't actually change their settings and preferences

When impersonating another user, the administrator has access to exactly what that user would have access to in the system, including the same menus and modules. ServiceNow records anything the administrator does while impersonating another user as having been done by that user. Any changes you make will show as that user. wiki: Impersonating a User - ServiceNow Wiki

hi William,
It will make actual changes if you impersonate a user A and make changes to any preference or anything. Although it can be found through the logs of the user A actually did the change or anyone impersonated him and made changes.
