Multiple hardware models to single catalog item

We are working on Hardware asset management and our AM team wants us to hide the hardware models from the end user and have them only select Laptop or Desktop. Has someone done anything similar where multiple laptop/hardware models can link to a generic catalog item that the end user can request and then someone determines which model to assign to that user

Hi,
I want to create a generic catalog item using which we can order any desktop , laptop, mobile etc. But i got stuck at the piont that how to fetch the value of that particular selected item to appear in price field of generic catalaog item.
For example i have created asset procurement catlog item and in that i created select field which selects item from hardware category. But how to display price after selecting item?

No we were not able to accomplish that, we decided to go a different route to support our processes.
