Re-opening Update Set

Hi guys,

Is there a way to "re-open" a completed update set? That is, once an Update Set has been completed, can the the State be changed from Completed back to In Progress.

Hi Lisa,

Yes, Completed Update Sets can be re-opened but it is highly recommended NOT to.

You can create another Update Set and apply it sequentially when you are moving your Changes.

Thanks,

Yes it can be done if and only if this update set is not yet migrated to the QA or Test instnace. If it is already been migrated, you will not be able to retrieve this update set on QA instance as it is already retrieved.

Better to create a new one.

Thanks for the speedy response Bhavesh, is it as simple as changing the State from Completed back to In Progress?

Back tracking a little, I have created a custom application, that is not quite finished yet but we don't want it to hold up a system clone we will be doing soon. I want to push the application to a completed update set, export it, and to re-import it into our development environment, and continue working on it later. Not necessarily push it to production or test environments.

Yes it is as simple as changing the state back to porgress.

Your scenario is similar to most of the developers who take backup before the clone.

Let us take an example of a Dev instance which is undergoing clone.

1. CLose the update Set on Dev

2. Go to QA instance and retrieve all the completed update sets from Dev. Do not preview/commit

3. Clone QA to Dev.

4. Commit retrieved update set

5. Also create new one to continue your development.

Yes you can also export/import   manually.
