standard change from a catalog item

Hello. We are starting to look at implementing Change in SN. Is it possible to create a catalog item that will eventually kick off a Standard Change Request? For example, if someone want memory increased on a particular Server, we envision a process where they can go into the Catalog, and Pick an 'Increase Server Memory' item. That item will require approval from two different groups. Once the proper approvals are given, we would like a Standard Change to be created for the Server Group to increase the memory on the server. We don't want that Standard Change to be created until the proper groups have approved the catalog item.

Please let me know what you think would be the best approach to create this in SN.

Thanks in advance for your help.

That could totally work. You would just need to use workflow and the Create Task activity. In there, select Change Request, apply the right template (assuming you're using those for Standard changes), and that should be it.

Hi James,

Yes, you can do this with templates. Take a look at the out of the box example. Replace YOURINSTANCE in the URL below with your instance name.

When I replace the YOURINSTANCE with my instance I get record not found.   Is there anything else I can try?

@Chuck Tomasi Is there still an OOTB template for this? The link you provided isn't working anymore on my greenfield SanDiego instance.  Thanks.

I still have it in my instance. Here's the XML for that record. Just import it and you should be able to try the URL again. If not, go to the standard change template list. Any of the records there should be the equivalent of that record. https://YOURINSTANCE.service-now.com/std_change_record_producer_list.do?sysparm_query=&sysparm_view=
