i tested on my PDI and field message not repeating here.
assuming here the onchange() catalog client script has been set on template variable.

yes it is on change of template.

I validated with the script on my PDI and it's working perfectly fine at my end.

There is a field on the table.. for every template the field value is different.. So, the field message is not static , it's dynamic as per the field on the selected template.

i tried to replicate the same scenario on my PDI but the field is different on my instance. what i tried to display caller title
so whenever i am changing the caller it's showing caller title in show field message ,
