Has anyone successfully created a Kiosk view to be used for walk-in's in at help desk? If so, would you mind sharing?

We have gone through some idea generation regarding this topic, as our users "check in" laptops. The challenge we kept encountering was that we want to be certain of the user that drops the equipment off, and the only way to do that (with reasonable certainty) is to have them log in with their credentials.
Therefore, with that assumption in mind, we just have them log into the iMac (we require typing of serial numbers, etc. so an iPad might not be the easiest for everyone) with their username and password. Once logged in, our external Service Catalog loads. They select the service they want and fill it out. We did not opt for a Kiosk view because we want them to use the Service Catalog for everything, so this provides a chance to use that interface. But really, at the end of the day, the "Kiosk" concept is to load a specific webpage which is what our iMac does when you log in.
To me, what you are looking to do is load a page for the users (whether you do a simple UI Page or a full blown CMS site is up to you), similar to how we load our Service Catalog. This page is launched by the device (iPad in your case), at which point the user just interacts with it like they would on their own device. By going through a UI Page or CMS Site, you are able to completely control what the site/page displays, which negates the need for you to create a custom role/acl/permissions to access your existing interface. A little more maintenance, but far more simple to setup and customize completely. Especially because it will be accessed strictly on a mobile device (iPad).
Qualcomm has done something similar that I have talked to people about at previous Knowledge conferences and it looks like SN has a small sample of it within this doc:
Perhaps your SN rep can help put you in touch with these people, or find out if they used a third party to build it.
(I have not checked Share or the store to see if it's already there)
I hope that helps you somewhat. Again, my thoughts are that your device just needs to load a webpage that is specifically tailored to deliver the content you want them to use. There might be much better ideas, and perhaps some prebuilt solutions in the store/SN Share. But you need something you can maintain, and perhaps this is something you can easily maintain.
