Different views of Knowledge Base categories and how to make both views 'group' categories.

Does anyone else have an issue where the portal knowledge base, looks different depending on how you get there?

Our KB search page looks like this (kb_search) - more modern and user friendly with search

find_real_file.png

But it also sometimes looks like this (kb_category) - looks older but tidier

find_real_file.png

The first one (kb_search) only shows the last category in the hierarchy.
Eg. If I have KB categories as follows (found here in the KB settings find_real_file.png)
Category as 'knowledge base',
Subcategory as 'article'

Then only 'article' will show in the category filter.

Whereas in the second one (kb_category), the Category will show and group its subcategories underneath in a nice/neat list.

My question is:

1. how do I continue using the more modern looking kb_search page but keep the functionality of the categories neatly grouping together of the kb_category page?

2. why are both existing in the one instance - when they are so so different in style and functionality?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Lesley.

One word of caution on the suggested solution. I experimented with both types of category listing (nested on/off) some time ago, and found when not using nested you may select multiple categories as part of your search, but when using nested you can only select one category at a time. This was one of the reasons I haven't implemented nested categories.

As I say, this was some time ago, so the functionality may have changed.

Thank you, BW.

I'll definitely weigh that up in the search functionality for my organisation.
