Carried parameters

Can you explain how carried parameters works and how to set it up? I cannot find any guides for this online.

I have tried the same solution to autopopulate the fields but when i try to map the Screen UI parameter in the table "sys_sg_button_instance_carried_param_map" i am not able to find the Screen UI parameter from Applet. 

I have used a Placeholder Text for my User Ui parameter when i search using the placeholder text  i am not able to find it. 

I have enabled carried field as true in UI parameter for the fields to be carried forward to my related list record.

Can you please tell me whether i am missing something in the configuration?
