Custom Notification in the Next Experience Delivery Channel

Is there a way to create a custom notification and select the Next Experience as the delivery channel? The only option I see is email.

The intent is to have notifications from a custom application show up in here if the user subscribes to them.

The answer provided here does not fit the issue. I'd also want to be able to provide subscribable notifications to the users and that they can chose to receive per Mail or by Next experience banner.
