Enabling browser spellcheck on HTML fields

We use Microsoft Edge browser at work and users were complaining about the loss of spellcheck functionality on HTML fields such as a Knowledge Article body.  A left-click on the misspelt word shows nothing and a right-click shows an option to insert a hyperlink.

There is a support article Spell checking does not work - Support and Troubleshooting (servicenow.com) which confirms the browser has to be configured to enable spellcheck but does not provide details. Here's how you can get it to work in MS Edge, and Chrome too.

  •  Open MS Edge Browser's settings (click on 3 dots on the top right corner and to the right of browser's address bar and select settings). Or type edge://settings/profiles on the browser Dinesh55_1-1682116486894.png

  • Search for 'spell' within settings

3. Under Use writing assistance section, choose Microsoft Editor, instead of Basic. Exit from the settings

4. Try again, but with the left-click(not right-click) on the misspelt word. It should show the spelling/grammar suggestions for the misspelt word.

Note : Whilst this works on MS Edge, in Chrome browser, a similar option exists

EDIT : Thanks to the question below about Chrome, upon further investigation it turns out that on Windows 11, I could get the spell check suggestions working, by turning on the following Windows settings. It is not exactly like Edge though, but it is better than nothing 😀

It now looks like this in Chrome

Please see if this works for you too. I have only tested on Win11

What are the steps to configure this in Chrome? I enabled Enhanced Spell Check but the Spell Checking still does not work in HTML fields.

@Donal  I have made it to work on Chrome, although not exactly like Edge. See my update above

We just tell users to hold down Ctrl when right clicking.  This forces the browsers contextual menu to open, not ServiceNow's.
