My library Knowledge Sources To Go is very popular, but it was intended mainly as a thematically grouped guide to standard sources and was provided by me as a PDF file. For certain topics, however, there is so much content that I can no longer include it in that document, as it cannot continue to grow forever.
For this reason, I have decided to handle such topics in individual community articles like this one instead.
What are releases in ServiceNow?
Versions of ServiceNow stretch back over two decades, when the company (which had recently changed its name from Glidesoft) rolled out a version labeled ‘Summer 2007’. What followed was a periodic release schedule, which saw the release of up to three different versions of ServiceNow each year. At this point, between 2007 and 2011, ServiceNow releases had not yet adopted a city-based naming scheme and were instead named after the seasons (later months) in which they were released. After October 2011, the naming convention of ServiceNow versions changed to follow a different pattern. The new approach sees each edition receive its designation based on a city and following alphabetical order. The first world city to be honored was Aspen in 2012 with Berlin following.

Let’s talk about auditing in ServiceNow, one of those features everyone ignores until something’s on fire. The conversation usually starts at one of two extremes: either you’ve turned on auditing everywhere and your audit tables use most of your disk space, or you’ve barely audited anything, and an auditor asks for the change history of a column that surprisingly isn’t tracked. Neither is fun.

Machine Identity Access Controls
Knowing exactly which integration user can use which API and access which data is… not trivial. It takes strong governance and a bit of discipline. Data security has always mattered, but in the age of AI where we build platforms that have access to any data of your organization a single misconfiguration can turn into significant damage.
