Open List From Filter Navigator With *.list versus *.LIST

When I open a list from the Filter Navigator and type in "list_name.list" -- that is, with ".list" in lower case -- the list opens in the current tab.

When I open a list from the Filter Navigator and type in "list_name.LIST" -- that is, with ".LIST" in upper case -- the list opens in a new tab.

Is this behavior expected? Is it documented?

Yes this is OOB. *.list / *.config is designed to be open in same tab and *.LIST / *.CONFIG are expected to be open in new tab to provide more convenient and good user experience.
