Important Update on Legacy Reporting and Analytics with Australia Release - Update June 2026

Dear Valued Customers,

We would like to address some concerns and provide clarity regarding the upcoming upgrade to the Australia release and its impact on your existing analytics instances.

Overview

There has been some confusion about the status of customer instances following the upgrade to the Australia release. Specifically, there are questions about the future of legacy dashboards and reports from the legacy reporting system. This system is also known by other names such as Core UI reporting, Responsive Canvas dashboards, or simply old dashboards. For the purpose of this communication, we will refer to it as "legacy" reporting and analytics.

UPDATE (March 2026): In March 2025, we announced that the ability to create new legacy content (dashboards and reports) would be discontinued beginning with the Australia release. Based on customer feedback requesting additional transition time, we have extended this timeline — new legacy content creation will remain available through the end of 2027, regardless of release family. While you may continue to create legacy content, it is unsupported starting with Australia.

Key Points

  • No Mandatory Migration: There is no mandatory migration required at any time.
    • UPDATE on New Content Creation (as of March 2026): Legacy customers WILL be able to create new content using Core UI tools through the end of 2027.
    • Legacy dashboards and reports will remain available for use indefinitely. To clarify, as of March 2026:
      • USAGE of Core UI content remains available indefinitely
      • NEW Core UI content creation ends at the end of 2027
    • Removed requirement for "All or nothing" migration.
    • There is no impact for customers who onboarded with ServiceNow on the Xanadu or later family release. Platform Analytics experience is the default reporting and analytics environment for new instances as Xanadu.

Identifying Legacy Systems

If you are unsure whether you are using the legacy system, please refer to the following visual indicators:

Frequently Asked Questions

What will happen to my legacy reports and dashboards after upgrading to Australia?

Your legacy reports and dashboards are unaffected. You can continue to run and view them indefinitely.

Starting with Australia, legacy content is accessible within the Platform Analytics UI. Legacy dashboards appear alongside Platform Analytics dashboards, with a UI version column indicating which experience each will open in.

What if my legacy dashboard or report doesn't migrate cleanly, or loses functionality after migration?

Don't migrate that content until the underlying issue is resolved or you've recreated a working version in PAe. You can continue using the legacy content as long as needed.

What if I encounter issues with my legacy content after upgrading to Australia?

For crashes, unknown errors, or other problems, the resolution is to migrate or recreate the content in Platform Analytics. Once you upgrade to Australia or later, ServiceNow will no longer issue product fixes for legacy dashboards and reports, except for critical security issues.

Can I still update or modify existing legacy content after upgrading to Australia?

Yes.

Can I create new content in the legacy UI (Core UI)?

Yes — and this is a change from prior communication. Based on customer feedback requesting more preparation time, the deadline for creating new Core UI reports, dashboards, and other content has been extended through the end of 2027.

Can I roll back a migration to the legacy version?

Yes.

Are there any licensing or entitlement changes when using PAe?

No. You remain entitled to all capabilities you had in the legacy system. Some new capabilities — such as AI-driven features — may require additional licensing.

I've seen that support for Core UI ends after Australia. Doesn't that contradict the statement that I can use legacy content indefinitely?

No — these aren't contradictory. You can continue using Core UI content indefinitely. What changes is the scope of support: the Support team will help you with usage questions and troubleshooting, but ServiceNow will no longer develop or release product fixes for Core UI defects. If an issue is caused by a Core UI product defect, the resolution is to migrate or recreate the content in Platform Analytics.

Why don't my Core UI Content Blocks migrate to Platform Analytics experience dashboards?

Dynamic Content Blocks are not supported in the PAe in-line editor — this is a deliberate architectural decision, not a migration gap. The PAe in-line editor is designed specifically for analytics dashboards (KPIs, trends, visualizations), while Content Blocks require a different model. To recreate dynamic, context-aware dashboard behavior in PAe, use Technical Dashboards with Data Resources instead. For a detailed explanation of why the architecture changed and where each capability belongs, see Dynamic Content Blocks vs. Data Resources: Why the Model Changed.

If you prefer to keep your existing Core UI dashboards with Dynamic Content Blocks running rather than migrate to Technical Dashboards, support for those dashboards will continue indefinitely.

We hope this clarifies any concerns you may have regarding the Australia release. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our support team.

Thank you for your continued support.

The official communication message sent in March 2025 is attached.

Hi, there is a lot of Performance Analytics, reports, dashboards that are built by ServiceNow and not customer.  After Australia, will there be a duplicate experience for these Platform Analytics and Legacy if we don't migrate?  And if we do migrate, does the upgrade consolidate our migrate with ServiceNow OOTB again?

is there any table like "report_stats" for Data visualizations for us to see the usage stats for data Visualizations.

Hi @vinaychowda,

from Australia that same table report_stats will have the usage information for the Data visualizations and they will be displayed in the Data visualization library page for the Analytics Managers/Admin.

Hi @Noelene Dwyer1 ,
the ServiceNow teams have rebuilt their OOTB dashboard using the Platform Analytics experience in Xanadu release. In case you do not want to migrate the Core UI OOTB dashboards, you will still be able to see and use the new Platform Analytics delivered.
In case you migrated the Core UI OOTB dashboards, they will stay as separate dashboards from the new one created by ServiceNow.

is there any way we can find all the tabs that are included in a specific dashboard in  Platform Analytics  and the content(widgets, reports) anything  that is added to that specific  tab .

In the Core UI dashboards we have that option.(pa_tabs table and sys_portal_page tables)

Hi @vinaychowda ,
I hope this documentation link: https://www.servicenow.com/docs/r/now-intelligence/platform-analytics-tables.html gives you the information needed for the new Platform Analytcics tables.

Fantastic article, Dan — congratulations!

In our case, we have a huge instance with thousands of dashboards, reports and users. We have just upgraded to the Zurich version, which includes significant improvements.

We will need many months to carry out the migration from the CORE UI to PA, and the news that in Australia we can continue to make changes to dashboards and reports in the CORE UI gives us peace of mind :).

That said, at some point we would like to block the creation of new dashboards and reports in the CORE UI so that they can only be created in PA, the idea is the users can use and even modify the core ui reports/dash but create new ones only in PA.

Do you know whether it is planned to implement this functionality?

Many thanks.

Hi @sergiofeito,
with Australia GA you will have 2 new properties that will enable/disable the option to create Core UI content.
By default the properties introduced in Australia will allow to create Core UI content but you can configure them, when you see fit, for your users to transitions to only create in Next Experience Platform Analytics and set the default values of those properties to false.
So, once you are in Australia, you can definitely decide for how long to keep Core UI creation enabled to your users.

Thank you so much for your very quick response

That sounds great, but is there a way to backport that functionality to Zurich? or is it planned to do so?

according to the article CoreUI support ends in Australia, so it makes sense to try to migrate before Australia. This functionality will allow us to prevent creating CoreUI dashboards and reports long before migrating to Australia, so it would be very useful to be able to complete our migration before arriving in Australia

thank you!

@sergiofeito you are not required to migrate before upgrading to Australia.
If you do not migrate, all Core UI content will be findable from the new library pages and you can decide if you want to migrate some content after Australia or only creating new content using the new Next Experience capabilities.
