Group By dropdown not working on PA Dashboard

Hi Everyone,

I am facing an issue in Platform Analytics and would appreciate any guidance.

I have a Column Data Visualization based on a table with an additional Group By selector configured for state and priority fields.

The visualization and Group By dropdown work correctly in my PDI (patch 3 Australia). However, in the instance (patch 5 Australia), although the Group By option (like Priority) is visible and selectable, the chart does not change after selecting it.

Interestingly, it works in Data Visualization and while editing the dashboard, but once added to the dashboard, the Additional Group By selection does not change the grouping.

I have already checked:

1. The table is OOB, so I also copied the working JSON from PDI (Australia Patch 3) to the instance (Australia Patch 5), but the issue persists.
2. I used Additional Group By instead of the main Group By because the latter makes the grouping fixed and cannot be removed/changed but I tried both ways but neither works when the visualization is on the dashboard.

I would appreciate if someone can help me on this. Thanks!

@AnupriyaC Thanks for confirming, Anupriya. Glad the version comparison helped identify the difference.

Our P2 case has been resolved by updating the PA plugin to version 8.4.8, as suggested by ServiceNow.

Hi Anupriya,

Since it works in Data Visualization and while editing the dashboard, but not after the visualization is added to the dashboard, this looks more like a Platform Analytics issue than a Group By configuration issue.

There is a known Australia issue related to using a second/additional Group By on dashboard visualizations. Please check PRB2072059 and the PA/Data Visualization bundle level on the affected instance.

Since you have already tested the same configuration/JSON from the PDI, you can first verify whether the instance has the relevant fix. If it is already on the fixed bundle and the issue still occurs, you can raise a ServiceNow case with the same reproduction steps.

Hi @sachinvic ,

Thanks for the reply. I did check the problem number that you stated, but it seems to be different from my scenario. In my case, the chart is visible even after adding the Additional Group By; the issue is that the selected value is not reflected in the chart and the data is not being grouped accordingly.

Also, since the same configuration works correctly in my PDI which is patch 3, would this not indicate that it should work the same way in the instance which is more upgraded and is in patch 5, assuming the configuration and data are the same?

@AnupriyaC

Hi Anupriya,

Thanks for the clarification, and apologies for the earlier PRB reference. Your scenario is slightly different, as the chart remains visible but the Additional Group By selection is not reflected.

Since the same configuration works in your Patch 3 PDI, please compare the Platform Analytics/Data Visualization bundle versions between the two instances, not just the family patch level.

If the bundle versions and configuration are the same, this would be worth raising with ServiceNow Support as a reproducible issue.

Hi @sachinvic ,

Again, thanks for the quick response.

After checking the Platform Analytics version as per your suggestion, I found that the versions are different between the instance and the PDI. The instance is actually on a more updated version it is in the 8.4x batch, whereas the PDI is currently on the 8.0x batch.
